Second Step:

Second Step is the curriculum that is taught in all grade-levels in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. RCPA scholars receive the social and emotional learning lessons in their classroom by Mrs. Mirarchi, the school counselor. Social and Emotional Learning is based on the five core principles: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Relationship Skills, Social Awareness and Responsible Decision Making.

BullyingRCPA remains committed to protecting students who are harassed, intimidated, or bullied by taking immediate steps to intervene. We hope you will join us in our commitment to creating a learning community where all students are respected, welcomed, empowered and supported. Please refer to SBCUSD website for more information:

Honor Patrol:

The Riley College Prep Academy Honor Patrol is composed of 4th and 5th grade scholars who excel academically, demonstrate positive behavior, attend school regularly, and serve as positive role models to scholars on campus. Students participating in Honor Patrol have filled out a job application, included two references, and have participated in a job interview. Honor Patrol students have specific duties on campus, which include, however are not limited to:
Hallway Monitors
Office Assistant
Custodial Assistants
Morning Greeters
Kindergarten Assistants
Attendance Assistant
Assembly Assistants

Riley College Prep Academy utilizes the PBIS system to address both appropriate and inappropriate behavioral choices. Three main rules guide behavior at RCPA:

Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful

These three rules can be applied in all of the different locations at the school site: office, cafeteria, classroom, hallway, restroom, playground, etc.

Along with the three rules we also have identified 16 social skills that our scholars will demonstrate/practice during the school day:

Following Instructions      Working with Others
Giving Criticism      Accepting Criticism or a Consequence
Making an Apology      (MYOB) Mind Your Own Business
Asking for Help      Asking Permission
Disagreeing Appropriately      Resisting Peer Pressure
Staying on Task      Using Appropriate Voice Tone
Listening      Accepting "No" for an Answer
Waiting Your Turn      Getting the Teacher's Attention

Be Kind

As the school counselor of Riley College Prep Academy, it is my goal to “Be Kind” to all staff and students. Kindness is an important component of our positive climate at RCPA. When we work together to create a culture of kindness, we thrive as a school family! I encourage you all to Be Kind!
